Motown Missile Challenger prepares for its next chapter, with specialist private auction targeted for Q1 2027

The black-and-yellow Pro Stock Challenger's project team invites collector interest and media enquiries while the auction partner and official schedule remain unconfirmed.

The Motown Missile Challenger project is preparing the historically significant black-and-yellow Dodge for a proposed specialist private auction in the first quarter of 2027. Collectors, advisers and automotive journalists are invited to explore the car's source material and register their interest ahead of the formal sale announcement. No auction house, official date or bidding process has yet been confirmed.^[P]

The owner-supplied booklet describes the Challenger as a Chrysler Pro Stock development platform built by Ted Spehar and his team from a factory 1970 HEMI four-speed donor, and presented in late-1971 configuration. Its account connects the car with Tom Hoover, Dick Oldfield and Don Carlton and with a program of engine, chassis and performance development. These historical descriptions remain attributable to the booklet; present identity, component configuration and condition require their own review.^{[B pp.4, 6–8]}

Among the subjects available for editorial investigation is the Data Van story. The booklet describes recorded engine and vehicle channels, including engine speed, throttle position, acceleration and pressures, followed by strip-chart analysis. A separate chapter documents an experimental transmission arrangement, distinct from the four-speed described elsewhere in the presentation.^{[B pp.9–10]}

The project's digital presentation brings together The Car, Provenance, Engineering, The Missile Files, Collector Guides and The Value of a Legend, a seller-commissioned research publication examining historic competition-car collecting, documented sales, ownership economics and due diligence. The publication is intended to frame informed questions, not to provide an independent appraisal or promise of appreciation.^[R]

Arnie Klann is the car's current custodian. Media can request a conversation about his connection with the Challenger, the details that matter to him and the proposed next chapter. Requests for interviews, podcasts, filming, current photographs or source permissions are coordinated through the Motown Missile project team; participation and access are subject to agreement.
